When the Cannes Film Festival was held in May, it was a no-brainer that the newest film from Alejandro González Iñárritu, Biutiful, would be picked up for distribution. After all, it was a movie by an acclaimed director that starred an Oscar winner, Javier Bardem (who, consequently, took home the best actor
prize at the festival). Three months later, however, the film has not found a studio deal. Until today.
It has been announced via press release that Biutiful has been picked up for domestic release in a collaboration between Roadside Attractions and Liddell Entertainment. Set to make its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, which begins on September 9th. The film will be released in December, though no official date has been set. The film is expected to be a contender during this year's award season.
