Magneto's Solo Movie Has Been Merged With X-Men: First Class

With all the talk of Matthew Vaughn’s new X-Men prequel movie First Class lately, maybe some of you have been wondering what ever happened to that X-Men Origins: Magneto movie we were promised. The film was first teased around the time the Wolverine solo film got off the ground and then it was promised endlessly without any real action. Now, to no one’s surprise, it’s officially dead.

We got our first hint that this would happen back in December of last year when First Class producer Bryan Singer said his movie’s existence would likely end development on Magneto’s solo movie and now mutant producer Lauren Shuler Donner confirms it to Crave. When asked if there was any heat on Magneto she responded this way: “No. You know, there’s internal discussions but probably not. It kind of got incorporated into this one, a lot of it.”

That actually makes a lot of sense. X-Men: First Class is supposed to cover the early years in the relationship between Charles Xavier and Magneto, and, that would have figured prominently in any Magneto origin story too. Donner elaborates that they’ve used, “Magneto history. Stuff from the Marvel/Magneto history.”

So there you have it. Magneto won’t get his own movie but we’ll still get to see plenty of his origin story in First Class, where he'll be played by former Inglourious Basterd Michael Fassbender. Magneto's probably better off this way, going solo didn't work out so well for Wolverine.
