Jim Carrey Could Join A Cover Band

Jim Carrey is out there somewhere considering his next move, and his next move could lead him to cut and paste rock n’ roll. Pajiba says Carrey is being “courted” to star in a film called Under Cover. The movie would cast him as a newly divorced father who joins a cover band to earn the money he needs to fight a custody battle against his ex-wife. I guess that’s as good an excuse as any for a mid-life crisis.

Hey remember when Jim Carrey was still a relevant force in comedy? Yeah me neither. It’s been awhile. The last time I laughed at a Jim Carrey movie it was 2003 and I was watching Bruce Almighty. And even that, let’s face it, is hardly a comedic classic. While we’re on the subject, when was the last time Carrey was relevant in any way, comedic or otherwise? I’d say it was 2004’s Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and since then, even if you’ve seen his more recent movies odds are you don’t remember them.

What I’m getting at here is that Jim Carrey is still a name, but nobody could probably tell you why. If he doesn’t do something worth watching soon, he’ll turn into Paris Hilton, famous just for being famous. He should probably call Judd Apatow, if he wants to get back to being funny, but instead he’s considering a movie which sounds like it should star Dwight Schrute.
